Gearing Up for NaNo!

I'd be happy to share my photo. Just don't steal it.
This November will be my first time participating in NaNoWriMo. I know, it's crazy. But in my defense, I didn't really step into the online writing sphere until early February this year, so I never heard tell of it 'till then.

I'm totally game, and I fully expect to meet (and possibly surpass) the 50k mark. In other words, finish a novel. It might be a little crazy, being the school year and all, and with Thanksgiving and relatives visiting, but I'm going to do it. Even if it's midnight and I'm exhausted, I'll be getting words in every day.

I already have my story beated out ("beated" meaning "beat-sheet-ed" -- if you don't know what I mean by a "beat sheet" please ask! I want to share the love!) and, while it might be a bit hard to let go of my revisions/WIP, I think it'll be fun to write!

Also, just as a side note, my wonderful, kind, attentive, loving (I could go on!) mother bought me chocolate today. Boy have I needed this!

The picture is just to make you jealous.

On that note, I'll leave you with a fill out and some questions: Are you doing NaNo? Have you before? Won or no? What are some pointers you can offer to a newbie?

Enjoy the rest of your Thursday!

I'm planning on getting all my college stuff done this month JUST SO I can participate in NaNo this year. This will be my first time, too! :D SO EXCITED.

5th time! 5th time winner (err, hopefully)!

When you are on a roll, don't let ANYTHING stop you.

Be competitive.

Yes, you do have time for another 1000 words.

Don't be scared to put a placeholder. Placeholders are to NaNo as REALLY AWESOME METAPHOR GOES HERE.

Got it?

Good.

@Lyla Yay!! *high fives* I hope you get it done. :D

@Taryn Haha! I'm sure you will, Miss Draft-In-10-Days. :P LOL!! You and your placeholders. Another 1,000. Got it. And competitive is easy, if I can find some competition. Who should I compete against? *looks around un-obviously*

*waves hand in air* MEMEMEME :D

Of course, this all depends on whether or not I actually do get everything done on time and do participate this year. Is Constance participating?

@Lyla Did you remember that you already commented on this? *giggles* And I think so!

I plan on participating! So excited; I've never done it, though I've heard about it. I'm actually already getting my NaNo story ready. (Or, at least, that is my excuse for plotting and world building instead of writing. >.>)

Am I not allowed to steal the photo or the photo's content? :P I had chocolate today, too. Not as nice as that stuff, but still. *loved* *is a rebel*

*skips off to make NaNo account*

I've never done a NaNo before, and I won't be doing it this year. November's a crazy month for me (end of year exams, etc.) so I don't have the time to commit.

Good luck!

Are you doing NaNo? Yes, about my favorite side character ever. ^^ She's completely, absolutely insane. And this book will show how she got that way. >:) I'm working on the outline, but I have my basic plans in place. Out of curiosity, what is the exact definition of 'beat sheet'?

Have you before? Won or no? Oh yes. ^^ I've been doing it since I was... 12? Won several times (got to 50,000 words in 15 days two years ago. This past year I wrote two 50,000 word novels simultaneously. XD) and more recently I won in Script Frenzy and Camp Na/JulNoWriMO. I LOVE this event guys. Seriously.

What are some pointers you can offer to a newbie?
Keep writing. A little every day. Keep up on your quota, and if you're on a role, surpass it. I keep a color-coded spreadsheet to keep track of my wordcount, and how ahead/behind I am. Sometimes it helps to have somethin' to look at, you know?
Just. Write. First drafts suck anyway, so you might as well get one done as fast as possible. ^^ You can revise later. For now, write.

@SilentPages Awesome!! And awesome! Two novels at once. Woah. O_O

I don't know the definition of beat sheet. But it's basically an outline-ish type thing that will give your story an backbone. It's awesome.

THANK YOU. I think this is gonna be so much fun. ^^

Lol. One novel is actually what I'm revising right now. The other... Well, let's not speak of that. XD

Ah. Then I think I'm working on my beat-sheet too. XD Sheets, perhaps. I ramble. A lot. Even in prep. XD

I compete against my mom (and we bet huge bars of chocolate ;) ) but I've won every year, so I wouldn't be opposed to some more competition. ;)

I'mma try for 30k--I set my own goals! NaNoWriMo Young Writer's Program FTW! XD Even though I'm an adult now...that's our little secret. ^_~*

Lol, like Amanda, I plan to attempt 1k a day (more if I can), and see how it goes from there. =D I plotted out a story to work with, but I'm not feeling the characters at all, so I think I'm just going to use NaNo to complete my WIP. =)

@Amanda Sounds like a good goal to me! :D

@SilentPages Haha! Beat sheets. XD My beat sheet(s?) usually end up 2 pages long. How AWESOME! Huge bars of chocolate FTW!

@Renee Good luck with whatever you do!:D
